Joseph W. Rose, age 97, passed away Tuesday February 27th at Brentwood North in Riverwoods surrounded by loved ones. He was born on September 8, 1920 at Lake Forest Hospital to Charles and Bernice (Wells) Rose. Joe was one of four children (Charles, Bernice, Bill). Joe graduated from Lake Forest High School and eventually Lake Forest College where he became captain of the football team. Days after graduation he married his high school sweetheart, Helen Louise Kennedy, on June 6, 1942. Shortly after their nuptials Joe shipped out for WWII to serve in the US Navy. Joe set up communication bases all over the South Pacific. After the war Joe worked as an Executive in the manufacturing industry for over 37 years. Joe and Helen adopted two children and have seen their family grow significantly over the years now with 4 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Joe retired in 1982, but still wanted to help. Joe volunteered with the International Executive Service Corps to help develop private enterprises. This took them to Poland four times and Bulgaria twice. Joe loved many things including Sanibel Island, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, golf, but most of all he loved his doting wife, Helen. Joe was a man of principle, gave tough love, was steadfast with his beliefs, and was an amazing grandfather. His love and lessons will continue through his family for generations to come.
